Cruising The Seine: River Tours of Paris

Like most major cities in the world, there is usually a large river that flows through or around its borders. It provides a means of transportation for both goods and people, and gives an overall sense of accessibility to the city. For the city of Paris, that river is called the Seine. The Seine (or La Seine, in French) appears to almost cut Paris in half, as is arches across the city. It expands for almost 500 miles, although only a portion of that is actually running through the city limits of Paris. Flowing from east to west, the Seine falls below 37 different Parisian bridges; of course, there are several others further along the river.

One of the most peaceful things to do in Paris is to find a welcoming footbridge that crosses the Seine in order to enjoy some reading, writing, or some simple relaxation. However, if you are looking for a little more excitement, then taking a boat tour of the city is just for you. There are several companies that run river tours, and depending on what you are looking for, there are many different options.

There are simpler boat tours, which allow you to solely float up and down the Seine and view the various sites as they pass by. Some of the nearby attractions you will pass include: Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, the exquisite Pont Alexandre III bridge, and all the stunning Parisian architecture. If you want to hear a little bit about the history, then you have the option of having tours with a guide/speaker. The stories and information correspond to every part of the city that conveniently floats by right in front of your eyes.

Lastly, if you are looking for a more romantic boat ride, there are various dinner cruises available. They can be a little pricey, but it will be an evening you will forever have in your head. As one of most romantic cities in the world, why not enjoy a meal while floating down the Seine and watching the shimmering city pass you by?

Taking a boat tour is a wonderful way to start off your trip in Paris. It provides the perfect introduction to many of the places you will visit later on in your stay. Especially when you might be a little jet lagged, relaxing on a boat tour might be the perfect way to ease into your trip.
