Like most major cities in the world, there is usually a large river that flows through or around its borders. It provides a means of transportation for both goods and people, and gives an overall sense of accessibility to the city. For the city of Paris, that river is called the Seine. The Seine (or La Seine, in French) appears to almost cut Paris in half, as is arches across the city. It expands for almost 500 miles, although only a portion of that is actually running through the city limits of Paris. Flowing from east to west, the Seine falls below 37 different Parisian bridges; of course, there are several others further along the river. One of the most peaceful things to do in Paris is to find a welcoming footbridge that crosses the Seine in order to enjoy some reading, writing, or some simple relaxation.
