Niagara Falls is the joining tourist destination on the international border of Canada and the United States. There are a total of three waterfalls, which make up the entire gathering. Those three include: Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls. On either side there is so much to do and see, making the falls a wonderful travel destination for any traveller.
There is always talk about which side of the falls is better: the U.S. side or the Canadian side. While it is difficult to decide until you visit, here is a break down for both sides of the amazing Niagara Falls.
United States:
Some people will point out that they do not like seeing all the background buildings on the Canada side, as it takes away from the natural beauty of the falls; others will also note that there is not as good of an overall view of all the falls on the American side. However, there are a lot of activities and tours on the U.S. side that you can be a part of. There is the ‘Cave of the Winds,’ which really submerges you in to the falls. Once taking a quick elevator ride to the bottom of the Bridal Veil Falls, you then make your way up a series of staircases as the falls are crashing down on you. They provide ponchos for the trip, but make sure you still have an extra shirt or pants waiting for you in the car. Lastly, on the American side, there is the Maid of the Mist: a boat tour, which takes you up and personal with the Horseshoe Falls. It is a classic Niagara Falls adventure, and again you should plan on possibly getting a little wet.
Canada:
If you want to have a unique view of the Niagara Falls, then definitely take part in the ‘Journey Behind the Falls.’ It is with this excursion on the Canadian side that you get to go through a series of tunnels, which have openings to see the falls from behind. Not only is there a spectacular view of the American and Horseshoe Falls from the Canadian side, but you also have this exclusive view of the water falling over you. There is also the Skylon Tower; it is the tallest view of the falls, and it even provides a view of Toronto on the opposite side. Lastly, seeing Niagara Falls at night on the Canadian side is a real treat. Every night, the falls are lit up with changing colored lights. Since you can see more of the falls at once, this light show should definitely be enjoyed on the Canadian side.
There are obviously different reasons to visit each side of the Niagara Falls. If you want more to do, then visit the American side; if you are more concerned about the overall view, then definitely visit the Canada side. However, if you want it all, then why not visit both sides of the famous Niagara Falls?
