Baguio: Strawberries, Cold Weather and Paradise

Food
Baguio: Strawberries, Cold Weather and Paradise

Being a tropical country, the people in the Philippines, may they be tourists or locals, find ways to cool themselves down. That’s why thousands flock to the coldest city in the country: Baguio. You won’t just cool yourself down, but you get to experience all its attractions and not to mention some of the best strawberry jam there is. Getting to Baguio can be quite a struggle in return for paradise. From Manila, you have to ride a bus for 8 hours and that’s not the bad part. Since it’s located high up in the mountains, you have to endure hours of zigzagged paths making your meal useless. Once you’ve thankfully arrived, check in to any one of the various hotels and inns available, just make sure that you booked ahead of time, it’s a very popular destination. Baguio is famous for their delicious strawberries and jam. Tons of strawberries are sold almost anywhere you look, but a better way to have them is of you pick them yourself. Take a ride to strawberry farms that’ll give you the chance to pick these succulent little hearts from their soft branches. We suggest a farm simply called “Strawberry Farm,” grab a […]

The guides are very nice and knowledgeable, so if you enjoy your tour don’t hesitate to leave them a tip. Creating a free itinerary is a good idea, but make sure you include a walking tour or two! Test Your Courage with Palawan’s Tamilok

Food
Test Your Courage with Palawan’s Tamilok

Knowing the adventurous person that you are, it would be a shame not to try an exotic dish from the place you went. Palawan can really push the meaning of “exotic food.” Presenting, the tamilok, what is anyway? It’s also called shipworm, but it actually belongs to the shell family. Imagine a really long and worm-like oyster and that’s basically what it looks like. These aren’t bite sized if you don’t cut them, they do grow to over 12 inches long. It’s not exclusively found in Palawan, anywhere there’s mangrove then there’s tamilok since they do live inside the dead ones. Tamilok is served raw alongside a dip made up of vinegar, onions, garlic, etc. If you really are up for the challenge, then you can head over to Bakhawan Eco Park and have a tamilok or two. But if you prefer places closer to the city like restaurants and bars, then dine in at either Kinabuch or Tiki Bar. Another option is to buy them in public markets, they’re sold in bags and you have to clean them yourself. We guarantee that it will be slimy, it will make you feel like a fear factor contestant or it can […]

Put on Your Gear and Climb Mount Olympus

Destinations/Europe
Put on Your Gear and Climb Mount Olympus

Daring to climb up Mount Olympus in Greece will ask a lot from you like fitness, physical capability and determination. Keep in mind that it is the highest mountain in Greece. Its impressive peak and appearance gave birth to the myths of the Olympian Gods that we still study until today. When you do make up your mind, head to Litochoro, which is a hiking path or you can ride a car deeper into the mountain. Beginning your hike, you can choose from three trailheads located on the east side of the mountain: Litochoro Town, Gortsia and Prionia. In these places you’ll spot a lot of people just touring around without the intention of climbing the peak of Mount Olympus. There are also a lot of refuges to stay for the night, so don’t worry. And they even offer beds and food at minimum prices, how great is that? After your trailhead and sleeping quarters are all planned out, it’s time to climb. Make sure that you’re well dressed for the cold and windy weather up there and wear proper worn in shoes. Don’t forget to add small knives, water bottles, sleeping bags, sunglass, sun block, first aid kit, and […]

Take Part in Romania’s Wolf and Bear Tracking

Destinations/Europe
Take Part in Romania’s Wolf and Bear Tracking

No other country in Europe can match Romania’s wolf and brown bear population. With that huge population, it’s no wonder that they would want to share it with the world. And by sharing we mean that tourists, such as yourself, will get the chance to track and witness animals in their natural habitat. Of course you won’t just see wolves and bears, there are tons of other wildlife like lynxes, more than 300 species of birds, and even more species of plants and insects. Keep in mind that this is not like your regularly walk in the park. Of course guided tours are available, day walks will take you tracking animal footprints until you find the ones that made it, or something even more fascinating. They not only aim to amaze the tourists, but also to teach them a thing or two about animal footprints and signs. Also, they believe that the best way to gaze upon an animal is when they’re at their natural habitat. Sooner or later you are bound to see deer grazing along, birds flying above, bears and wolves lazily minding their own business. The best time for the tour is during April or May because […]

Discover Italy’s Five Lands within a Day

Destinations/Europe
Discover Italy’s Five Lands within a Day

On the rough parts of Italian Rivera, Cinque Terre can be found. One of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s basically a number of villages that were built on rugged cliffs. Cinque Terre mean “Five Lands,” composed of five villages built closely together making it seem as though it’s just a huge town. The five villages are Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Monterosso al Mare, Vernaza, and Manarola. Cinque Terre mostly relies on tourism, but they do grow some wine grapes on the slopes. These little houses are popular among many tourists, so popular that they have become more and more crowded over the years. It’s kind of hard to move and enjoy stuff when there are swarms of people blocking your way and your view. You can go in the middle of winter, but with the low temperatures you might end up indoors. Riomaggiore is not only an impressive villages, but a colorful one at that, every corner makes for a perfect shot. Here, you can also find the famous “walkway of love,” that end with Manarola. The whole way design with graffiti from past couples who have also experienced the beauty of the village. While Manarola also hosts its own colorful […]

Don’t Miss Out on the Anne Frank House

Worldwide, the diary of Anne Frank is known and studied because of her bravery during a time when everything already seemed lost. A simple diary of a hopeful girl has inspired millions of people. The story of how a family and their companions hid in a house for two years during World War II when the Jews were taken to concentration camps. She wrote their endurance, hardships, her ambitions and even her first love. Their father, being the only survivor after the war, took it upon himself to make the diary known. All thanks to her legacy, the Anne Frank House was established. A historic house that exhibits their lives, it was opened in their actual house, the very house they hid in for more than two years. Located in Prinsengracht in Central Amsterdam. Walking in the Anne Frank House, you can’t help but imagine what it was like to have lived in those times under those conditions. Displayed there is the actual moveable bookcase that the Franks used to conceal the entrance. There are a few ladders and climbs, but it’s worth it in order to see the room.
