6 Italian Cities You Need To See

Italy is famous for its style, culture, and food. It is the height of fashion, with some of the world’s biggest designers emerging from its cities. In terms of food, you won’t find a better pizza anywhere else on the planet. Yes, even you, Chicago. The Italian’s touch when it comes to pasta, bread and pizza is second to none. Italy also has, arguably, more prominent tourist cities than any other European country. In this post, we’ll bring you some of the best; from the popular, to the less travelled.

  1. Rome – We couldn’t possibly create a list of Italian cities without Rome, or Roma. It is Italy’s capital and its cultural heart. It is the single biggest reminder of the Roman civilisation with remnants and artifacts across the city. Here you’ll discover the Colosseum, medieval churches and renaissance palaces. It’s also an iconic religious destination with St. Peter’s Square and the Vatican both located close by.
  1. Milano – The northern city is Italy’s style and fashion capital. In fact, it’s the style and fashion capital of the world. Held in the same regard as London, Paris and New York, it is the purveyor of modern style. The city itself has a gothic theme, with the spectacular Duomo taking center stage in the city. Milano is complete with trendy bars, restaurants, and museums. If you’re looking for Italian luxury, this is where you come! It’s also the best place to venture north into Italy’s lakes and the Alps.
  1. Venice – After Rome, Venice is Italy’s second most visited city. It is unique in that the entire town is built on water. Venice is the ideal romantic getaway for honeymooners and couples. The meandering canals and waterways allow visitors to take lazy trips on the famous gondolas. Just be sure to visit at the right time of year, or you may find the city under water!
  1. Verona – Verona is the famous setting for the greatest love story ever told. Shakespeare used Verona as the backdrop to Romeo and Juliet. As such, it has become one of the country’s most popular cities. In fact, you can even visit Juliet’s balcony and reenact the famous scene line for line! Verona also boasts some of the best Roman remains in Italy. The Roman arena and castle are well worth a visit.
  1. Naples – Naples, or Napoli, is located south of Rome and is perfect for a coastal getaway. You’ll find elegant yachts and a vibrant city experience. We think it’s one of Italy’s most exciting cities and it regularly attracts tourists.
  1. Florence – Florence is world renowned for its renaissance architecture. The cathedral (duomo) and baptistry alone are worth the trip. It is also home to the famous Ponte Vecchio; the famous bridge full of shops and boutiques. There’s a rich cultural history here too, and you’ll find some of the finest museums and art galleries in the country.

The Italian cities are vast and diverse. No two are quite the same, and each holds its unique set of secrets. Where would you go first?
