Top Things to Do While in San Diego

San Diego is one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of California. And with so many fun things to do and beautiful places to see, it is no surprise that it is so well liked by anyone who visits the area. If you are planning a vacation to this great city, continue reading to find out about some of the very best things to do while you are there.

Swimming and Snorkeling in La Jolla Cove

La Jolla Cove is considered one of the most beautiful places in the entire state of California. The beach here is spectacular, thanks to the fact that fishing has been prohibited in the area for a long time. You can enjoy uninterrupted swimming and snorkeling in the calm waters and catch glimpses of the myriad marine life that call the area home, such as the strikingly orange Garibaldi fish.

Explore Historical Old Town

Old Town is considered the birthplace of the state. There is an abundance of museums and historical buildings throughout the area that you can explore because guests are allowed to go inside them and take a look as they please, making this a must-see site for history buffs and those who want to feel like they have taken a trip back in time. Famous historical buildings to check out include Seeley Stables, the oldest schoolhouse in the city, the blacksmith shop, and the famously haunted Whaley House. Enjoy some authentic Mexican cuisine at one of the area’s many restaurants whenever you need to refuel.

See the Desert at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

If you have always wanted to experience the desert, now is your chance. The Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is an incredible 600,000 acres, making it the largest state park in the state and one of the largest state parks in the country. This place is truly a must-see for nature lovers. Visit during the spring to see the colorful wildflowers that adorn the area. Filled with hiking trails, dirt roads, and wilderness areas, you never know what you will find during your trip, from bighorn sheep and kit foxes to golden eagles and roadrunners, to name just a few of the species that thrive there.

Relax at Mission Beach

Mission Beach is one of the most famous beaches in San Diego. You will find crowds of people sunbathing and surfing there, and the boardwalk is perfect for active cyclists and skaters as well, with plenty of places to eat so that you can stick around for as long as you wish. Wildlife enthusiasts will get a thrill from seeing the local seal population enjoying the sand and waves as well.

Explore the Gaslamp Quarter

History buffs will also love the Gaslamp Quarter. Here, you can take a trip back into the Victorian era, with its Victorian-style buildings that feature everything from shops to art galleries, as well as restaurants and nightlife venues. It encompasses 16 blocks and features some of the most unique architecture in the city. You can even find tours in San Diego that will bring you around to all of the popular sights in this area of the city.
