Upon your arrival to Bruges, make your way through the cobblestone streets towards Market Square. It is here that the Provincial Court and the Belfry of Bruges will greet you at the town center. The Belfry is the beautifully erected bell tower that was originally used for spotting dangers across the city. Be sure to climb all 366 steps to top before the tower closes, because you would hate to miss out on an amazing view of Bruges.
Afterwards, follow the canal through this old city where you will learn that it is very easy to eat and drink your entire way through. Belgium is known for its chocolate and waffles, and with all the shops along the way there are plenty of opportunities to indulge in your sweet tooth. Even if you do not buy anything, it is worth walking in to smell the assortment of chocolates and treats; the smells alone will completely satisfy your senses.
Bruges can be a very quiet city. It is smaller in size and population when compared to Brussels, Bruges’ sister city. However, some good things really do come in small packages, and Bruges is the perfect example of this. It is a simple, easy, and enjoyable day trip for anyone travelling from its neighboring cities.
