Short Trip to Salzburg and Hallstatt Austria

Budget Travel/DIY Itineraries
Short Trip to Salzburg and Hallstatt Austria

Are you a huge fanatic of Sound of Music? Then, Salzburg Austria is your best destination. I’m a great fanatic of the 1950’s musical, lead by Von Trapp Family Singer.  From Prague, I packed my backpack and head to Salzburg. The cheapest way to get to Salzburg is via Munich, book a ticket to flixbus, and present the QR code to the bus driver. I booked my 1 night accomodation at Hotel Vuona Vita via booking.com for 69 euros – This is the cheapest I got which is good for 2 persons. I suggest to book it ahead so it won’t cost you much.

It’s easy to get around Salzburg, you can take the bus to get to the Mirabelle Garden. You must not miss this lovely place!

From Mirabelle Garden, you can walk across to see Mozart house, and then, cross the river. You will see this nice view.

Across, you will see the bridge with lots of padlocks!

So now, do you know where this place is?

It is the St. Peter’s Church! Yes, it’s this one. Where The Von Trapp Family went for hiding! At the back of this church, you will see the cemetery. I’m not fond of taking cemetery, so I don’t have it 🙂

Next is the Hohensalzburg Fortress

You have two options to get to the fortress. By Foot or By Cable car. The Cost for RT cable + Museums inside is 12 Euros for Adults.

Here’s the view from the Fortress.

We spent the rest of the day walking around and eating in Salzburg. The next day, we took the bus going to Hallstatt. It’s just a day trip. We purchased our ticket online via www.oebb.at/en/  You can choose your own connection and pay for it using credit card.

To get to Hallstatt, take bus 150 to Bad Ischl (10 euros 1 WAY), and from Bad Ischl (3.5 Euros), then take the train to Hallstatt Banhoff. When you reach Hallstatt Banhoff, take the ferry cost 5 Euros RT.  Total travel takes roughly 2 hours. The journey from Salzburg to Bad ISchl is really beautiful. Seat on the left side of the bus, keep your eyes open!

A beauty to behold!

My trips ends when I took the night bus to return in Prague! Amazing holiday!
