London is a vibrant city, filled to the brim with culture, history and even culinary delights. It has world famous historical landmarks and of course Buckingham Palace. It is divided in two by the River Thames that has defined Britain’s history and her links with the sea for centuries. From serious shopping to some of the best art galleries and museums in the world, London has it all. Make sure you get the best out of London with these tips.

Be a tourist

The best way to get to grips with a city is to become a real tourist. London is no exception. Choose from Bus tours to more intimate walking London tours. Getting around with a guide and seeing the sights, will give you a feel for the place. It’s always more informative when you are with someone who knows what they are talking about. This is a brilliant way to explore the House of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben. London is packed full of history, pomp and circumstance. Make the most of it by booking yourself on a tour.

Get out on foot

Once you have a general idea of where things are and how to get around, you’ll find the buses and underground easy to navigate. Make sure you get an oyster card to facilitate your travel. On foot London can open up unexpectedly easily. Cross the bridge form the Houses of Parliament and you’ll find yourself on the incredible Southbank walkway. From here you can meander down past Shakespeare’s Globe and also take in the stalwart National Theatre. The London Aquarium is located on the South Bank. Your view across the river will be one of the most famous in the world.

Stay where the locals stay.

One of the great delights of London are its characterful neighbourhoods. From Mayfair to Soho and from Fulham to Hammersmith, each has its own character. Rather than staying in an often overpriced hotel, why not stay in a ready furnished flat or apartment? Check for the best value accommodation in London and enjoy the intimate lifestyle of locals. It’s a great way to get the best out of your visit.

From here you’ll be able to sample local pubs and restaurants. You’ll be well positioned to make the most of world famous street markets. You’ll also have somewhere private and relaxing to put your feet up after a hard days shopping. From Piccadilly to Oxford Street and down towards Kensington, London has some of the best shopping in the world.

Everywhere you go in London, there is something to see. Historical buildings live next to sumptuous modern offices and apartments. London is a city for living and enjoying. The capital is punctuated with some amazing parks and green spaces. Both Hyde Park and Green Park are central and easily accessible. If you like why not take a river cruise down to Richmond and Putney? A visit to Kew Gardens and Hampton Court is a must. Take your time to let it all sink in. London has waited a long time for you to enjoy it. Make the most of your stay.
