From being a heartthrob in “Titanic,” Leonardo diCaprio has turned himself into an environmental activist. The actor is now hosting several eco-focused television programs. Maybe this was the result of purchasing Blackadore Caye, an island in Belize, which he purchased in 2005 for $1.75 million in partnership with Jeff Gram who owns Cayo Espanto Resort.

The actor discovered the island while vacationing in 2004 at Cayo Espanto Resort with girlfriend Gisele Bundchen. DiCaprio and Jeff Gram are now deep in planning with the Four Seasons group to create a five star luxury resort, which will be based on sustainable design and environmental conservation. DiCaprio revealed that Blackadore Caye will serve as the benchmark for testing innovative ‘green’ technology and natural sources of energy such as water, sun, and wind.
If everything goes according to plan, Four Seasons Blackadore Caye will convert the 104-acre tropical island into a five-star resort which will house an 80-room luxury hotel with private beach villas, spa services, and fine dining restaurants. Aside from that, the island will also have a solar-paneled airstrip to provide additional power to the island. Furthermore, it will include an exclusive collection of private villas with pools and direct access to the beach. Four Seasons Blackadore Caye will cater to an A-list of clients which will include famous friends of DiCaprio.

Four Seasons Blackadore Caye is a unique resort because it will be developed in an eco-friendly manner. The developers will ensure that the buildings will be integrated into the local landscape so as not to disturb the local flora and fauna. Aside from the solar panels, the resort will also be powered by hybrid, wind, and bio-diesel power systems.
Development of the resort is slated to begin sometime this year. The project will be spearheaded by Las Vegas entrepreneur and hotelier Andrew Sasson of the Light Group, the company that built the MGM Grand and The Bellagio. Rumors has it that exclusive private estates will also be developed in Four Seasons Blackadore Caye for famous celebrities such as Robert De Niro and Tiger Woods.
