A Vacation Down Under – Ten Locations You Shouldn’t Miss

ULURIAustralia is truly one of the natural wonders of the world in itself. So, you can always count on a vacation to Australia to be a rich and fulfilling experience. Scientists believe that Australia had severed from the rest of the land mass during the formative phases of the planet and life evolved there isolated to the rest of the world. If you don’t believe that, then the best way to see that is visiting this continent country. If you are planning to spend your next leisure trip down under, then there are some destinations that you simply cannot afford to miss when you land there.

1. Sydney

There is no better urban destination in Australia than Sydney. Attractions such as the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbor Bridge and Sydney Tower need no introduction, particularly popularized after the 2000 Summer Olympics. There are several other attractions such as Darling Harbor Marine Aquarium, Hunter Valley Wineries and Jenolan Caves are important as well. A cruise by the harbor could really make for a memorable evening with your significant other.

2. Uluru

Considered one of the natural wonders of the world, witnessing this iconic monolith is a one in a lifetime experience. So, it makes the city your perfect camp to snorkel around this great marine wonder. The largest single rock in the world, it changes its red color like a chameleon during dawn and dusk. Also known as Ayers Rock, it is considered sacred by the aboriginal people. Located in the Northern Territory, Alice Springs is the town nearest to the location.

3. The Great Barrier Reef at Cairns

The reason why you would want to visit the port city of Cairns in the State of Queensland is its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef. So, it makes the city your perfect camp to snorkel around this great marine wonder. Witnessing the Great Barrier Reef is once in a lifetime experience and there are plenty of diving and snorkeling opportunities around it.

4. Kakadu National Park

Australia’s largest national park, it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Apart from the remarkable scenic beauty of this wilderness, it is also home to some of the most unique species in the world.

5. Kangaroo Island

A trip down under would largely go incomplete without a glimpse of Australia’s unique and bewildering wildlife. There are very few places that can offer it all in a package than Kangaroo Island. This peaceful island is known for its five conservation areas featuring kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, koalas and sea lions. Kangaroo Island is particularly a bird watcher’s paradise.

6. Jamison Valley

Jamison Valley is one of the most scenic locations in the entire country. It is known for its cable car rides over a lush, majestic valley that you would certainly not regret seeing for yourself. Its spectacle is pretty comparable to that of the Grand Canyon in terms of majesty.

6. Fraser Island

World’s largest sand island, it is sure to offer you a rich family beach vacation. Fraser Island is also known for activities such as dingo sighting tours, angling, camping, trekking and 4WD rides. The S. S. Maheno shipwreck is a major tourist attraction and landmark of the island.

7. Tasmania

One of the largest islands in the world, apart from Australia, that is, Tasmania offers rich history and tremendous natural beauty. The urban life is pretty laid back here as compared to the mainland and its wildlife is closely connected to its population centers. Major attractions include Hobart, Tessellated Pavement, Mount Field National Park, Dove Lake, Freycinet National Park, Mount Roland, Hastings Cave, Great Oyster Bay and Savage River National Park. Don’t miss seeing the notorious Tasmania Devil.

8. Kimberley

To complete your Australian adventure, it is essential to have a bit of a taste of its desert side as well. Kimberley is remote with tough, dry and rugged train and it will offer a marvelous adventure. Attractions include Purnululu National Park, Horizontal Falls, Mornington Sanctuary and Geikie Gorge National Park among others.

9. Cape Tribulation

If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful vacation isolated from civilization and deep into Australia’s wild side, then Cape Tribulation is the place for you. The destination is set deep into rain forests with eco lodging and holds some of the richest wildlife attractions in the country.

10. Perth

Perth is one of the finest cities in the country in terms of tourism and there are a lot of things to see and do to keep you busy. With attractions like Western Australian Art Gallery and Museum, Cultural Center, Stirling Gardens, Perth Zoo and a lively nightlife, you would never have a boring evening in Perth.
