America has so many diverse landscapes that it provides you with many opportunities for adventure. People often overlook many of these possibilities, thinking they must travel to the far corners of the earth to find excitement. The following are five of the most underrated destinations for adventure travel in the U.S.

1. Montana

Montana offers a wide choice of possibilities for adventure travel. The best known is Yellowstone National Park, but there is also Glacier National Park as well as no fewer than 77 distinct mountain ranges. Whether you enjoy hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding or rafting, you can find many beautiful spaces to do this and more in Montana. There are even places in this Western state where you can race sled dogs!

2. Sailing the Gulf Coast

Florida is known as a place to relax on the beach, but if you’re looking for a more active vacation you should consider sailing the Gulf Coast. Whether you are a beginner who wants to learn the art of sailing or an experienced sailor, you can find tours, charter trips and sailing schools that will allow you to enjoy the freedom of being on the water. You can fish, watch dolphins and even explore uninhabited tropical islands.

3. Arcadia National Park

Maine contains some of the most beautiful untamed wilderness in the entire country, and Arcadia National Park is the best place to experience this up close. This park has more than 47,000 acres of forests, lakes, mountains and hiking trails. You can go rock climbing, horseback riding, biking and hiking to your heart’s content. You can also see all kinds of wildlife such as moose and peregrine falcons and also explore Mount Desert Island.

A Colorado rafting adventure is one of the most thrilling vacations you can take in the U.S. Rafting the Colorado River, which is located in the middle of the Rocky Mountains, puts you in some of the most scenic wilderness you’ll find anywhere. Hikers and climbers can explore the wilderness of the Adirondack Park Forest Preserve, which consists of six million acres and is larger than many of USA states!
