Imagine going back to the late 1800’s, and you are getting ready to go to a fancy summer party at one of greatest homes of all time. As you pull down the winding driveway and up to the grand entrance, you get out of the car only to be greeted with a glass of champagne. You are in your finest evening attire, as you enter a massive, elegantly designed ballroom. Making your rounds, you mingle and introduce yourself to some of the richest people in the world. That is your typical social scene during America’s gilded age. This would have occurred on multiple occasions throughout the summer, as the mansion owners strived to keep up with all social standards. Although the parties are over and these same families no longer live here anymore, we still have these beautiful homes that allow us to go back in time through America’s vibrant history. Rhode Island may not be the largest state in America, but it sure makes up for it with its mansion-lined cliff walk.
