Europe is one of the world’s most lusted destinations, and the city of Madrid in Spain is no exception from this. But apart from the picturesque sceneries provided by hovering classical structures, historical landmarks, and magnificent highways, there is so much more to discover about the capital that may be unknown to many people until now. One misconception that many have about Madrid or any other European destination for that matter is that one will have to break the bank in order to have the trip of a lifetime. This may be partly true, but with the right resources, some strategic planning, and a great deal of research, traveling to Madrid while staying on a budget should be possible. Madrid in winter The first tip that one must remember when planning a budget-friendly Madrid trip is to go there during the winter when air fares are lower and tourist population takes a plunge from its usual density. The weather is also more bearable in winter compared to the scorching hot summers in most parts of Spain. The only downside to visiting during this season is that beach excursions should and must be dropped out of the plan because they are […]

Before our trip to Egypt, I was only looking forward to two things- first, to see the Great Pyramids of Giza since it is arguably the most staple destination of Egypt and second, I was really looking forward to experience the street scene of Cairo by going on a street food trip. Although a lot of travel advisors say that it’s not very safe to eat just anywhere in Egypt, I was still however confident to go on a food trip just because I got a first-aid medicine at hand just in case my stomach goes bad. Luckily, I did not get diarrhea during my whole trip because I avoided the Egyptian tap water as much as possible. I know Egypt is a historic and exotic place and I expect the same with their food; that’s why I was very excited to get the opportunity to finally travel there and see the ancient sites firsthand and not just see it in some postcard or in a children’s encyclopedia. Sure enough, when we got to Cairo, the first thing we went to see are the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx in Giza, situated just a few kilometers away from the City […]
Ah, the summer holidays. Weeks and weeks of free time; no assignments, no lectures, no exams. How will you fill this time? Possibly in the same way as thousands of other students: backpacking. With two or three months to spare, you have plenty of time to explore one or two countries – though finding ones which meet your budget constraints might prove a little tougher than first anticipated. Those nearer home are typically the most financially-viable, as they don’t necessitate expensive long-haul flight tickets and could instead be reached by rail or car. Some research therefore, is essential if you are going to explore a country on a shoe-string. That or taking notice of this list of five top cheap backpacking destinations. Vilnius, Lithuania Lithuanians are a tall race and their national sport is basketball, did you know that? Probably not. Their capital city is Vilnius and it boasts a pretty coastline which faces the Baltic Sea. In the summer time, many nationals head to the coast to stay in their holiday homes – which for many were built on land historically gifted to families by the government. It has a fascinating – if not troubled -history, with influences from […]

On my last business trip to London I was required to travel a lot, both within and outside London. So I decided to stay close to King’s Cross station. I started to look online for a comfortable yet reasonably priced hotel in the area, and the more I researched the more positive reviews I found of The Jesmond Dene, a Kings Cross Hotel in London. Every review I read raved about the place and its services, so I decided to check it out for myself this time. The Jesmond Dene hotel– Firstly the location, it is absolutely the best I could have asked for. Only a short walk away (just a couple of minutes) are not only the three major rail terminals, namely the King’s Cross, St. Pancras and Euston, but the area is also connected by a vast network or bus routes and tube lines, which connect it to some of the major airports. As I was supposed to travel extensively, this was the best option for me. But proximity to transport route is not all that this hotel had to offer. This Victorian guest house is a bed and breakfast hotel with the friendliest staff. Not only will […]
From my childhood, Britain had always seemed to cross my path in one way or another. Be it the stories recounted by my relatives who had been there or the regular canning I received from a British nun at my convent. Thus, my fascination with Britain began long ago, and it only got compounded by the numerous story books, TV shows and films I have come across ever since. So about a year back I decided to visit the place physically for once and not just through other’s eyes and/or minds. But as we all know, an overseas vacation is rarely cheap, especially if you are a student. So after doing a year’s worth of odd jobs and breaking out my savings I saved up a decent amount. Even a few friends decided to tag along, as it is always cheaper to travel in groups. But just to be on the safer side I checked online to see if there were any deals or discounts for overseas travelers like us, and what I found was the Golden ticket to Britain on a Budget. This was the ‘English Heritage Overseas Visitor Pass’ which is a Sightseeing discount pass for overseas travelers […]
I have been to several parts of the Philippines, and I’ve seen its wonders. Among all the places I visited, below are the top 5 that leaves a good impression to me. 1. El Nido, Palawan Consists of several breath-taking islands, el nido is truly a paradise. I love the blue sea and the greenest mountains. People in this place are all nice and very accommodating. 2. Puerto Princesa, Palawan – Not much to see, but I enjoy the city tour, firefly watching, crodile farm, as well visiting historical places. This is also where the famous Underground River is located. People are very friendly. 3. Sagada, Mountain Province – If you’re a person looking for an adventure, I would highly suggest this place. You will do trekking, spelunking, hiking, and more! Visit the famous sumaging cave, bomod falls, hanging coffins and enjoy the breathtaking view of sunrise at kiltepan. 4. Cebu, Philippines – it has many stories to share. With its famous Magellan Cross, Basilica Minore Del Santo Nino, The Mactan Shrine in Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan Island Aquarium Museum in Lapu-Lapu City, Casa Gorodo and more. 5.
