When traveling, one can sometimes overlook or genuinely miss out on the small towns of the world. Many will gravitate towards the major, well-known cities, but we cannot forget the other culturally rich towns across the globe. In the suburban outskirts of Philadelphia, there is the small town of Doylestown, Pennsylvania. It is easy to get to, as it is the last stop from Center City on the Lansdale/Doylestown Regional Rail Line. Taking the train provides for reliable and convenient transportation and allows for the perfect escape from the bustling city; it even gives you some time to simply relax and watch the scenery fly by your window. Doylestown is a place that is filled with music, art, and great coffee. It is the hometown of several artists, writers, musicians, and several other public figures. The most notable would be James A. Michener (writer), Henry Chapman Mercer (architect), Pearl S. Buck (noble prize winning author), and Pink (pop-star). When in Doylestown, be sure to make an appearance at the James A. Michener Art Museum or the Mercer Museum, an exhibit on early American artifacts. These are two of the most visited places in Doylestown, filling your day trip with plenty […]

America’s summers are made up of BBQ’s, fireworks, apple pies, and music festivals. While the most recognized festivals include Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, you just might find yourself pleasantly surprised by the smaller and younger festivals found across the country. Not only are they usually cheaper, but also they add a more local flavor to the atmosphere while staging a credible weekend lineup. Out on the banks of the Ohio River in Cincinnati, Ohio, stands Sawyer Point and Yeatman’s Cove. It is here that the Bunbury Music Festival takes place in mid-July and always puts up a great showing. It not only has had great music every year, but also the riverbank setting provides for a great way to explore the Cincinnati area; there is a great view of Newport, Kentucky as you relax on the cement, amphitheater-like stairs, which lead down to the river. The Bunbury Music Festival has only been around for two years, but do not let that fool you. Even in its first year, Bunbury was able to have performers like: Death Cab For Cutie, City and Colour, Neon Trees, and Weezer. For its second festival in 2013, the lineup became even better; with headliners like FUN., […]

Dunn’s River Falls: Climbing Jamaica’s Natural Staircase
Africa/Australia/DestinationsIf you are cruising the Caribbean or enjoying a Jamaican vacation with friends and family, then what you are about to read is just for you. Right near Ocho Rios, Jamaica is Dunn’s River Falls. It is the cascading waterfall that allows for a true Caribbean adventure. Once making your way down to the bottom of the falls, you will then make your way back up the 600-foot long natural staircase. Plan accordingly, because you will get drenched in this activity. Not only is Dunn’s River Falls surrounded by gorgeous and luscious scenery, it is also a refreshing excursion as you head up the falls hand in hand. During your guided tour, which will take about an hour and a half, your human chain will climb up and along the winding rock formations. There are stops along the way to take a quick dip, or head on under the waterfall for a little shower. Make sure you wear the proper footwear, such as fully strapped sandals, as the rocks can be very slippery. Always watch your step while climbing Dunn’s River Falls; after all, you would not want to be the one who brings down the rest of the group! […]
Like most major cities in the world, there is usually a large river that flows through or around its borders. It provides a means of transportation for both goods and people, and gives an overall sense of accessibility to the city. For the city of Paris, that river is called the Seine. The Seine (or La Seine, in French) appears to almost cut Paris in half, as is arches across the city. It expands for almost 500 miles, although only a portion of that is actually running through the city limits of Paris. Flowing from east to west, the Seine falls below 37 different Parisian bridges; of course, there are several others further along the river. One of the most peaceful things to do in Paris is to find a welcoming footbridge that crosses the Seine in order to enjoy some reading, writing, or some simple relaxation. However, if you are looking for a little more excitement, then taking a boat tour of the city is just for you. There are several companies that run river tours, and depending on what you are looking for, there are many different options. There are simpler boat tours, which allow you to solely […]
It is about 7 o’clock on a Friday evening as you approach a large, glowing building. The noises and cheers begin to grow louder, and you arrive closer to the entry gates. On your way, there are several vendors selling blue and red merchandise like scarfs, hats, and flags. As you make your way closer to the joining masses, you are taken over by a radiating sense of exhilaration. You quickly pass over your ticket, enter in to the find your seat, and watch the pulsating crowds as they chant in unison. You are now about to take part in an experience, the simultaneous act of production and consumption. You have just found yourself at a national football match… In the name of sport, there is nothing like attending a national level sporting event like that of a European football match. The stadium radiates with excitement and you can feel the camaraderie resonate from fan to fan. The Stade de France is situated just north of the city limits of Paris, and it is home to both the France national football and rugby teams. It has a capacity of just over 80,000 people, which makes this stadium part of the […]
