Top 5 Castles in the United Kingdom

The United Kingdom is often associated with royalty. A trip to this country will never be complete without visiting its various castles. Here we will look at the Top 5 castles in the United Kingdom according to the Travel Channel. Windsor Castle The 900-year old Windsor Castle is recognized as the largest occupied and oldest official royal residence in the world. It is more than just a castle as it also houses several homes, a large church, and of course, the royal palace. Windsor Castle is visited by more than a million people yearly with the likes of Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton having been guests at the palace. Hampton Court Located along the River Thames, the Hampton Court was once occupied by Henry the VIII, known for having 6 wives and beheading 2 of them. His fifth wife was 15-year old Katherine Howard who was imprisoned, escaped, and then tried for treason. For trying to escape, she was dragged through a gallery that’s now called Haunted Gallery. The outside of the castle features a 60-acre garden, spectacular view of the River Thames, and a maze that has confused visitors for more than 300 years.   Edinburgh Castle […]

4 Days, 3 Nights Rome, Italy DIY Itinerary

DIY Itineraries/Travel Stories/Travel Tips
4 Days, 3 Nights Rome, Italy DIY Itinerary

The easiest way to get around Rome is by walking. Everything is worth seeing, each tourist location is within reach. Just beware of pickpockets especially in the metro and bus. Avoid bus 64 as much as possible. If you are planning to visit Colloseum, beware of those men dress in Gladiator. They will say picture taking is free, but after taking picture, they will ask for 10 Euro! Here is the itinerary I prepared for my visit. However, I failed to follow it, because when I get there, I just keep on walking. It’s fun to walk because there so many people walking by. Trevi fountain is under construction but it’s still worth visiting. Italian men are charming indeed 🙂 Accommodation: Walter Rooms Guest House Via Carlo Alberto 24, Central Station, 00185 Rome, Italy   How to get to guest house from the Airport                 Take FM1 Link, get off at Ostiense Station (LINE B), take metro toward Termini, and transfer to LINE A, get off at Vitorio. Or. Take Fm1 towards Termini, take bus 105 towards Stazio Grotte Celoni, 2 stops, get off at Piazza Vittorio Emmanuelle, or take Metro A and get off at Vitorio €8 Between 08:00 […]

Travelling to Wimbledon

The Wimbledon is one of the four Grand Slam events in men’s and women’s tennis (along with Australian Open, French Open, and US Open). Here are 5 things about this event that you may not know about.   King George VI, the father of Queen Elizabeth II, once played in this event. While most British royalties would watch the game from the royal box of the Centre Court, the Duke of York, eventually King George VI, competed in the 1926 Men’s Doubles of the Wimbledon. Sir Louis Greig got an automatic berth in Wimbledon after winning the Royal Air Force Tennis Championship and chose the duke to be his partner. Their British opponent Britons Arthur Gore and Herbert Barrett in three easy sets 6-1, 6-3, 6-2. The duke  was gracious in defeat.   The Wimbledon was first staged to raise funds for croquet equipment   While croquet now plays second fiddle to tennis today, it was the All England Club’s only sport when the organization was established in 1868. Lawn tennis was only included in the club in 1875 and the first tennis championships in 1877 was played to raise funds for a pony-drawn roller for the croquet lawns. There […]
